About AMG
Acoustic Metamaterials Group Limited (AMG) is an innovation and technology company that utilises cutting-edge acoustic metamaterials technology to develop next-generation noise-control and audio products. As a new class of basic materials, acoustic metamaterials offer superior performance compared to conventional acoustic materials, driving innovation in how people interact with sound. AMG has achieved commercial applications of acoustic metamaterials across multiple industries, including consumer electronics such as speakers and smart wearable devices, construction noise control, architectural acoustics, electrical and mechanical systems, and home appliances.
We are seeking a Senior Engineer (Metamaterials) to play a key role in the successful, timely completion of a complex government-funded development project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of acoustic metamaterials that form the core innovation of the project’s noise control solution
- Apply specialised metamaterials science and engineering expertise to define, evaluate, and select metamaterial concepts that meet project performance targets
- Design detailed metamaterial structures and architectures to deliver targeted acoustic responses for specific noise reduction
- Use advanced simulation tools, including FEM and CFD, to model, optimise, and validate metamaterial acoustic performance
- Optimise metamaterial performance for spectral customisation and non-local absorption to achieve defined noise reduction KPIs
- Translate deployment constraints into practical metamaterial design requirements and ensure metamaterial designs are compatible with defined system integration constraints and can be incorporated into solution components
- Drive technical innovation by iterating designs based on simulation insights and performance trade-offs to maximise solution effectiveness
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure metamaterial designs contribute to the overall success of the noise control solution
Job Requirement:
- Ph.D. Degree in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, with specialisation or demonstrated depth in acoustic metamaterials
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience designing and developing acoustic metamaterials for noise control applications, with ownership of technical decisions from concept through validated prototype
- Proven capability in designing acoustic metamaterials to meet measurable performance KPIs, with experience validating and refining designs by correlating simulation with experimental testing through defined test objectives, cross-functional test collaboration, and model updates based on measured results
- Strong technical expertise in computational modelling of acoustic metamaterials, including FEM-based acoustic/vibroacoustic simulation, optimisation methods, and (where applicable) CFD and Multiphysics analysis to accurately capture and design for relevant physical effects
- Demonstrated record of innovation and original contribution through publications, patents, or documented industry impact in acoustic metamaterials or closely related acoustic technologies
- Knowledge in building acoustics and/or environmental noise, with prior experience in acoustic instrumentation and methodology for reverberation, sound insulation, noise, and vibration measurements, would be an asset
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional stakeholders (project team, engineers, manufacturing, external collaborators) to deliver against technical milestones and manage technical risk
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical updates and reports and communicate progress and results to management
This opportunity is offered on a one-year renewable contract basis, subject to performance and business needs. The employment is ideally scheduled to commence in May 2026.
